Katha duration
Short answer
Most Satyanarayan katha sessions at a Bengaluru flat or house take roughly two and a half to four hours from sankalp to prasad, when the story is read in one sitting with aarti and a short havan. That is a planning range, not a guarantee: some families pause for elders to rest, add extra aarti, or invite more relatives to speak during the katha.
Pandit Mrityunjay Sharma confirms the expected length on WhatsApp after you share how many people will sit, whether you want havan in the same visit, and which language mix you prefer for the katha (Hindi, Sanskrit with explanation, or a blend). The visit is always at your home, not at a hall booked through this site.
What fills the time
The clock is not only the reading. A typical home katha includes Ganesh and sankalp, kalash sthapana, the main Satyanarayan story with intermittent aarti, optional havan, visarjan, and prasad distribution. Families in Whitefield, HSR Layout, and other hubs often reserve the living room the evening before so mats, the havan kund, and the prasad table are ready when the pandit arrives.
Longer visits happen when the family asks for a fuller havan, when many guests each offer a short sankalp, or when children and elders need breaks. Shorter visits are possible when the family already completed some preparatory pooja and wants the pandit to focus on the katha portion only—still with proper order, but fewer extra elements.
Planning the day in Bengaluru
Choose a morning or evening slot that matches building rules and parking for guests. Apartment associations sometimes restrict havan smoke; mention your society’s norms so the pandit can advise on ventilation or a balcony kund. Power backup and a quiet room matter more than square footage: the katha needs steady seating and a clear path to the kitchen for prasad.
This note does not sell muhurat charts or promise outcomes from the katha. It helps you block calendar time. For the rite itself, see the Satyanarayan katha page and the samagri note.
Questions
Can we finish in under two hours?
Only if the family agrees to a trimmed format in advance. Rushing mantras helps no one; Pandit Sharma will say plainly what can be shortened without skipping required steps.
Does havan add much time?
A short havan usually adds thirty to sixty minutes including setup and ahuti. The exact plan is confirmed on WhatsApp.
Should we count travel for the pandit?
Your planning should focus on house time. Travel within Bengaluru is discussed when you book; it is not a separate rate on this page.
Is evening katha common?
Yes, many working families choose evening slots. Ensure prasad cooking finishes before the katha ends so guests are not kept waiting.
What to send
