Satyanarayan Samagri

Kitchen and pooja room

Satyanarayan katha samagri spans the pooja thali and the kitchen. Families prepare panchamrit ingredients, halwa or sheera prasad, fruit plates, and havan supplies if homa is included. In Bengaluru, buy fresh fruit the morning of the katha; apartment fridges are small and guests arrive in bursts.

Common list

  • Kalash, coconut, mango leaves, and red cloth
  • Ganesh murti or photo, Satyanarayan printed katha book
  • Roli, haldi, rice, flowers, bel patra if available
  • Panchamrit: milk, curd, ghee, honey, sugar
  • Diya, ghee, camphor, incense
  • Havan kund, wood or nuggets per pandit advice, full havan samagri
  • Banana leaves or clean plates for prasad layout
  • Kumkum for guests’ tilak after aarti

Coordination

Send guest count so prasad quantity is sane. This page does not sell kits or promise “all-inclusive” fees. Pair with cost factors and book katha.

Quantity for guests

Count adults and children who will eat prasad, then add one tray for unexpected neighbours—Bengaluru flats often attract friendly door visits when they smell sheera. Fruit should be washed and cut only after the story segment unless elders want it on the altar earlier.

Keep spare diya wicks; long kathas burn through more oil than a ten-minute diya. Confirm havan wood quantity for your kund size on WhatsApp rather than buying a bulk sack that smokes out the stairwell.

Supermarket versus traditional stores

Many items come from a single Malleswaram or Russell Market run; havan samagri packets vary in wood chips and ghee quality. Ask the pandit if a pre-mixed packet is acceptable before you buy the largest sack. Coconut should feel heavy with water; dry ones disappoint at kalash time.

Apartment kitchens may lack space for large prasad cooking—order halwa components early or cook the night before if elders allow. Label containers “altar” versus “kitchen tasting” so children do not snack away havan ghee by mistake.

Questions

Can we use store-bought prasad?

Many families cook sheera; others mix homemade and bought. Elders decide; tell the pandit.

Is tulsi mandatory?

Desirable for Vishnu worship; substitute per pandit if unavailable.

Do we need a new kalash every time?

Reuse cleaned vessels unless elders want new.

What about paper plates for guests?

Fine for serving; keep havan offerings in traditional vessels.

Is banana leaf mandatory?

Helpful for prasad layout; steel plates work if leaves are unavailable.

Can we use frozen coconut?

Fresh coconut is preferred for kalash; confirm with the pandit if only frozen is available.

What to send

The name of the rite, your area in Bengaluru, and a preferred day. If elders have a family custom, mention it in the first message.

How to book

Message either WhatsApp number. Pandit Mrityunjay Sharma does the work at the house in Bengaluru and nearby areas within about one hundred kilometres. The fee and material list are shared in that chat; they are not printed on this page. The site form opens WhatsApp only and does not store your details.
