Mundan Samagri

Before the barber arrives

Mundan samagri is lighter than wedding stock, but missing one item can delay sankalp. Families usually prepare a small pooja thali, a clean stool or mat for the child, sharp scissors or arrange the family barber, and havan needs if the pandit includes homa in the same visit.

Pandit Mrityunjay Sharma sends a checked list for your tradition—North Indian households may differ on whether mundan happens with full havan or a mantra-only cut. Do not treat this page as the final shopping list; use it to start packing a box the night before.

Typical items

  • Haldi, kumkum, chandan, and rice for tilak
  • Kusha grass or darbha as directed
  • One coconut, flowers, and a diya with ghee
  • Copper or steel lota with water; small kalash if havan follows
  • Havan samagri, camphor, and match-safe incense
  • Clean cloth for the child’s head after the first cut; many families use a new towel
  • Prasad: often halwa, puri, or what your elders prefer
  • A bowl for collecting the first hair; disposal method per family custom

Apartment mundan in Bellandur or Hebbal may need a plastic sheet under the chair and wet wipes for easy cleanup.

What not to assume

This page does not say samagri is included in a fee or sold as a kit. It does not promise lucky hair disposal spots. Share allergies and child comfort needs when you book.

Pair with mundan cost factors and mundan at home.

Packing checklist night before

Line a plastic box with a towel and pack items in the order the pandit will call them: thali first, then havan, then prasad containers. Keep scissors accessible but away from children until mantras begin. If your society restricts open flame, pack extra agarbatti only if the pandit approves—do not substitute without asking.

Photograph your layout after setup so next year’s mundan in the family is easier to repeat. This note still ends with the WhatsApp list from Pandit Sharma as the authority, not the photo.

Questions

Do we buy a special mundan razor?

Many families use the family barber’s tools after mantras; some use scissors only. Ask elders and confirm with the pandit.

Is gau milk required?

Some traditions include symbolic milk; others skip. Mention your custom on WhatsApp.

Can mundan happen without havan?

Yes in some families. The priest will not add havan without your approval.

What about prasad fruit for guests?

Keep fruit separate from havan offerings unless the pandit directs otherwise.

What to send

The name of the rite, your area in Bengaluru, and a preferred day. If elders have a family custom, mention it in the first message.

How to book

Message either WhatsApp number. Pandit Mrityunjay Sharma does the work at the house in Bengaluru and nearby areas within about one hundred kilometres. The fee and material list are shared in that chat; they are not printed on this page. The site form opens WhatsApp only and does not store your details.
